Celebrate the giving season by supporting the CHEERing girls’ football program! The CHEERing STARS (Soccer Teams and Refugee Solidarity) program began in July and now has over 30 adolescent girls from the Malakasa refugee camp who participate. Predominantly from Afghanistan and with limited recreational activities for young girls in the camp, many of these girls have never had the opportunity to play a sport before. The program is rapidly expanding and the girls are getting better each week, making your support more important than ever!

The STARS program involves girls aged 8 – 18 from the Malakasa camp. The majority of the girls on our team are Afghan and many play alongside their older and younger sisters. At the start of the program, the girls decided on the team name “The Beautiful Girls” and have since shown an incredible amount of excitement and dedication; they’ve even been able to play a friendly match against a team from a nearby camp! Football provides the team with a sense of community, regular fitness, and an emotional outlet. Our program also includes ‘football English’ classes, loops in adolescent health and nutrition, and has a holistic approach for each player’s family.
